In 2017, we painted the fire escape at 313 Hope St in Stamford, Connecticut.
The photographs show the exterior steel fire escape mounted against the brick facade of the building at 313 Hope St.
The visible frames document the condition of the metal before work began, showing localized surface rust on the landings and support brackets, followed by views of the steel after manual wire brushing and scraping exposed sound underlying metal prior to painting.
Surface preparation is the foundation of any fire escape repaint: scraping and wire brushing down to sound metal, then spot priming with a rust-inhibitive primer before finish coats go on.
